Summer weddings are always something special – the sun is shining, flowers are blooming and the atmosphere is simply magical. But the question many guests ask themselves is, ‘What should I wear?’ This year, my boyfriend, Marvin, and I decided to have our outfits for an upcoming summer wedding customised by Sumissura and Hockerty. The experience was fantastic from the order to the design process to the finished outfit, and the results speak for themselves!
My outfit: A lilac dress with optional cape from Sumissura
When I set out to find the perfect dress for the wedding, I wanted something that was both stylish and unique. At Sumissura I designed a beautiful lilac coloured dress with an optional cape. The colour is perfect for a summer wedding – light, fresh and elegant. The cape adds a touch of drama to the outfit, which I love, and can be removed if needed for flexibility. At Sumissura you can find many styles and customise your dress to your liking, this time I opted for a one-shoulder dress with a mullet skirt. Combined with pretty sandals and a matching clutch – the wedding took place on a farm – my outfit was perfect.
The design process at Sumissura
- Colour choice: I opted for a light, breathable fabric in a delicate lilac colour, which is perfect for a summer wedding. The fabric drapes beautifully and feels pleasantly cool on the skin.
- Cut: The cut of the dress was particularly important to me. I chose an elegant A-line that creates a flattering silhouette and is comfortable at the same time. The one-shoulder top gives the dress a modern touch.
- Cape: The highlight of my design was the optional cape. It is detachable and adds a touch of drama to the dress. It can be worn or left off depending on the occasion, giving the outfit added flexibility.
- Fit: The bespoke approach at Sumissura allowed me to ensure the perfect fit. I entered my exact measurements and the dress was custom made for me. The result was a dress that fit like a glove and was incredibly comfortable.
This design and the ability to customise every detail made the dress very special and perfect for the summer wedding.
My tips for the perfect summer wedding outfit for women
- choice of colours: Light, fresh colours such as pastels or vibrant shades like lilac are ideal.
- material: Choose light, breathable fabrics such as chiffon.
- cut: Choose a cut that is both elegant and comfortable. A dress with an optional cape offers flexibility and a special eye-catcher.
- accessories: Keep the accessories minimalist to let the dress take centre stage. Subtle jewellery and a matching clutch are all you need.
Marvin’s outfit: A blue and white striped seersucker suit from Hockerty
My boyfriend has opted for a customised blue and white striped seersucker suit from Hockerty and designed it according to his wishes. Seersucker is the perfect material for summer weddings – light, breathable and stylish. The stripes give the suit a classic yet modern touch. As an expert in suits – after all, he owns over 80 of them – he was absolutely thrilled with the design process, as the high level of customisation options gives free rein to creativity. The look is also perfect proof that it doesn’t always have to be a dinner jacket and bow tie.
The design process at Hockerty
- Fabric selection: The first decision was the fabric. Seersucker is known for its lightness and breathability, which makes it ideal for hot summer days. The blue and white stripes are timeless and give the suit an elegant, maritime touch.
- Customisation options: At Hockerty, we were able to customise every detail of the suit. From the lapel style (he opted for a classic, narrow lapel) to the number of buttons (double-breasted for a more elegant look), everything was customisable.
- Lining: An often overlooked but important aspect is the lining. He chose a light, breathable lining in a plain colour that goes well with the seersucker and increases comfort.
- Trouser style: The trousers were also tailored, with a slim fit that looks modern but still offers enough freedom of movement. Important details such as the belt loops and pocket placement were also customised.
- Personalised details: To give the suit a personal touch, he had his initials embroidered on the inside of the jacket. Small details like this make the suit a unique piece of clothing.
Tips for the perfect summer wedding outfit for men
- material: Seersucker, linen or light cotton are perfect for warm temperatures.
- choice of colour: Light colours such as blue, beige or grey look fresh and are less prone to heat build-up.
- cut: A well-fitting suit is a must. Tailored options offer the best comfort and style.
- accessories: Complete the look with a colour-coordinated tie or bow tie and stylish but comfortable shoes.
