press trip
The summer of 2024 took me to picturesque South Tyrol, where I had the opportunity to experience the ‘Roter Hahn’ label up close. This unique brand stands for authentic holiday experiences on South Tyrolean farms and combines tradition with luxurious comfort. My stay at the Niederthalerhof, an idyllic farm with modern chalets, not only offered me the peace and seclusion of nature, but also access to the region’s most fascinating excursion destinations.
Niederthalerhof – luxury meets rural charm
As soon as I arrived at the Niederthalerhof, I was warmly welcomed by the Stablum family and accompanied to my chalet and large holiday flat. The farm, which perfectly combines modernised comfort with the traditional South Tyrolean way of life, provided an exceptional backdrop for my summer break. My chalet was spacious, tastefully furnished and offered breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Every morning, a lovingly prepared breakfast basket with fresh, home-grown produce awaited me – an absolute delight that got every day off to a perfect start. The animals on the farm are also great fun, especially the younger guests love the ‘petting zoo’.
The sauna at the Niederthalerhof provides even more relaxation, which can be booked as required and is then lovingly prepared by the host family.
I was able to spend my holiday in Chalet Frühling at the Niederthalerhof in South Tyrol. The 34 m² of the chalet were perfect for us – cosy yet spacious, with direct access to the garden, where we spent the warm summer evenings or enjoyed our breakfast in the morning with a unique view. The eat-in kitchen was also a wonderful place to celebrate cooking together in the evenings. The alpine style of the chalet, combined with modern comfort, immediately gave us a cosy feeling. The peace and quiet and the view of the surrounding mountains were particularly impressive. It was an ideal place to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty of South Tyrol to the full.
With the BrixenCard, I was able to use public transport and some of the best attractions in the region for free, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Another unforgettable highlight of my trip was the excursion to the Plose with the BrixenCard, Brixen’s local mountain, which is very close to the Niederthaler Chalets.
The cable car took me comfortably up to 2,000 metres, where a spectacular mountain landscape spread out before me. There is also a toboggan run, the Plose Looping and the opportunity to hire a mountain cart.
Steidacherhof – insights into the world of South Tyrolean apples
Another highlight was the visit to the Steidacherhof farm, where I was able to immerse myself in the fascinating world of South Tyrolean apple production. Gloria and Daniel, the owners of the farm, showed me around their apple orchards and told me with great passion about the history of apple growing in South Tyrol. Tasting the different varieties of apples and the farm’s own apple products was a treat for the senses – the freshness and quality were immediately noticeable.
Incidentally, the Steidacherhof now also offers farm holidays in luxurious holiday flats and with wellness. We enjoyed this wonderful view of the mountains and the vines with a glass of the farm’s own apple juice.
Lunch at the Buschenschank: a culinary experience at Fronthof
Lunch at the Fronthof wine tavern was a particular highlight of my stay. The Fronthof, an impressive farmhouse from the late Gothic period, provided the perfect backdrop for a top-class culinary experience. I was warmly welcomed by the Kompatscher family in glorious sunshine and shown into the rustic wine tavern. On the terrace, with a breathtaking view of the surrounding vineyards, I was served a menu made from the farm’s own produce.
From homemade bacon to savoury Wiener schnitzel from the farm’s own pork – every bite tasted of home and tradition. The fresh ingredients, most of which came from the farm itself, lent the dishes an unrivalled authenticity and flavourful quality.
Roter Hahn – A label for authenticity and quality
The Red Rooster is more than just a label – it is a promise of quality and authenticity. Behind this seal of quality is a network of over 1,600 South Tyrolean farms that have committed themselves to offering their guests unforgettable holiday experiences. To ensure this high quality, each farm is subject to strict criteria. From the furnishings of the accommodation to the quality of the regional products and the personal care of the guests – every aspect is carefully checked. Holidaymakers can therefore be sure that their stay at a Roter Hahn farm will be a very special one. When travelling to our excursion destinations, we kept coming across farms that even displayed the Red Rooster as a figure or as an award in front of their farm. The Red Rooster offers the farms valuable services such as courses, marketing and more.
Excursions in South Tyrol – nature, culture and unforgettable experiences
Of course, I also got to explore the surrounding area during my stay. An absolute highlight was a visit to the Pragser Wildsee lake. The turquoise-coloured lake, surrounded by imposing mountain peaks, provided the perfect backdrop for a hike and, of course, for countless photos. Another must is the Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), the largest high Alpine pasture in Europe. The endless expanses and majestic mountain landscape made a deep impression on me.
A visit to Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, rounded off my stay. The charming old town with its narrow streets, historic buildings and lively markets is a real gem. I particularly enjoyed the Italian way of life and the excellent local cuisine.
Summary – A holiday for the soul
My stay at the Niederthalerhof was a perfect blend of luxury, closeness to nature and cultural experiences. ‘Roter Hahn’ has managed to harmoniously combine tradition and modernity and give me an insight into authentic life in South Tyrol. The wonderful hospitality, the fresh regional products and the breathtaking nature made this holiday an unforgettable experience. If you want to get to know South Tyrol at its best, you should definitely consider a stay at a Roter Hahn farm. It is the perfect way to switch off and at the same time experience the rich culture and nature of this region. Thanks again to the Red Rooster and all the wonderful farms we were able to visit.
