At the end of January I visited Lausanne, today I would like to show you some pretty spots of the capital of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland.
Come with me on a small discovery tour through the city 🙂
City Tour Lausanne
The Cathedral of Lausanne is considered as one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Switzerland. She was canonized in 1275. To discover are many filigree decorations, beautiful ceilings and glass windows. Who likes can climb the 224 steps in the bell tower for a small expense contribution and enjoy the view, unfortunately it was just closed when I was there.
A truly amazingly beautiful building. I met a nice American from Phoenix, he was enthusiastic about these buildings, because in the USA such buildings do simply not exist. If you’ll travel to Lausanne, have look at this cathedral, not for religious reasons, but for its wonderful architecture.
Next to the beautiful church you will find the museum mudac, dedicated to contemporary sculpture and design. It expects a time journey with ancient art from Egypt or Asia to today’s creations meets.
Also close located there is the Historical Museum of Lausanne in the walls of the former bishop’s seat.
On the Place de la Riponne is the Palais de Ruine in the center of Lausanne. Built in Italian style at the end of the 19th century. It is home to various art and science museums. Also there is a library inside.
From here you can easily reach the Cathedral of Lausanne. Further up there is a covered wooden staircase.
In the center of the city, there are many other beautiful and old buildings, this is the town hall of Lausanne.
At Guillard on Place de la Palud, famous watchbrands and exclusive jewelery have been sold there since 1858.
In the town center you will find many small shops and boutiques as well as the well-known fashion stores and department stores. This one I found particularly nice, integrated into a wall as colorful eye catchers.
Likewise pretty is the Grand Pont of Lausanne, built in 1844, had the bridge originally two floors with arches across the river Flon. One of them, however, was removed while the River Reconstruction thirty years later.
Also worth a visit is the Brasserie de Montbenon and the accompanying Montbenon Park. No matter if you want to eat something in the beautiful interior of this building or just enjoy the view outside.
Right next to it you can find the Palais de Justice of Lausanne. This is where the District Court of Lausanne is located. Also a beautiful building and in front of the building stands a column with Wilhelm Tell. If you ask yourself now, the Federal Court is of course also located in Lausanne but I was there last year, here you will find the report.
Look at this view.
In Lausanne, there are a lot more, for example. The lake, the nightlife, the botanical garden or the Porte d’Ouchy. I’ll be back in Lausanne for sure.
The Hotel
I stayed in the Starling Hotel Lausanne outside the city center. Apart from the EPFL campus – Innovation Park, UNIL & Swiss Tech Center.
From the outside you can’t see it, but the rooms are really nice and modern. Cool is also that a UE Boombox was waiting for the hotel room party 😉 Most of the time I do not take mine with me on travel.
I felt comfortable, the rooms are nice and clean. The bathroom is also beautiful. The breakfast was ok, but for me as coffee junkie is a Latte Macchiato important ^^
By the way, the area around the EPFL campus is also pretty
Have you ever visited Lausanne?
