Mediterranean weekend at the Villa Sassa in Lugano

Ticino is to be called the sunny side of the country, Mediterranean flair meets Swiss quality. Especially in the current situation, high standards are very important to me. In the beautiful Villa Sassa, I felt well looked after all round. Especially the hospitality and the culinary delights should not be missed.

Villa Sassa

Villa Sassa was built in neo-Gothic style as the summer residence of the Colonel and Mayor of Lugano Giacomo Luvini-Perseghini at the beginning of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, alterations were carried out in Baroque style when the architectural remains of the family residence were integrated into the Villa in Sassa.

From the ancient 19th century villa comes the enormous plinth on which the building rests and which offers an incredible view of Lake di Lugano, the old core of the villa with its colourful ceilings dating from the first half of the 19th century and various Baroque elements are also still from bygone days.

Today, in addition to the culinary delights of the Ai Giardini di Sassa restaurant, it also offers a great wellness area and the DOT Spa with unique treatments.

Unser Zimmer

Our room was very large and therefore offered a lot of space to stay. Beside the master bedroom, a cosy living room, a small kitchen and a large bathroom. In any case, my highlight was the balcony with a fantastic view on the Lago Ceresio.

In total, the Villa Sassa offers 120 rooms, suites and flats with elegant furnishings, a bright ambience and a panoramic view.

Culinary delights

In the morning the breakfast was of course my highlight, especially nice to enjoy it on the sun terrace, accompanied by a strong coffee. The buffet offers choice for all preferences. Of course I couldn’t miss a fresh croissant.

In the evening the restaurant Ai Giardini di Sassa (14 points in the Gault Millau) invites you to feast, it offers Mediterranean dishes in different variations. During our stay we enjoyed half board and were each allowed to enjoy an excellent 3-course menu. The refined dishes and the friendly staff provide the perfect ambience. Not only hotel guests meet here for an evening together, but also locals.

Wellness & DOT Spa

The Villa Sassa is also known for its Wellness Club with fitness and for the DOT Spa with a total area of more than 3,000 square metres. We were allowed to enjoy our first hamam ritual in the DOT Spa. Originally this beauty ritual comes from the Orient. A combination of private spa, skin treatment, steam bath and massage. First you go into the whirlpool and steam bath, then the black soap is applied and it goes again into the steam bath. Because the steam opens the pores and prepares the skin for peeling, removing all dead skin cells. This is followed by a body wrap and face mask based on gasuol and rose water to cleanse the skin. Pure relaxation and a massage with argan oil from Morocco is the final touch. After the massage you can enjoy the Private Spa again, tea and fruit skewers are served. After the treatment my skin felt incredibly soft and pure, I am thrilled.

Furthermore I was allowed to try an individual facial treatment in the DOT Spa, the Dot Unique Skin. First, the skin is analysed with a device to determine the skin’s needs. Afterwards the skin is intensively cared for with the DOT Mask. The polyvinyl mask has a high moisturising and regenerative effect:

  • Promotes the natural cell regeneration.
  • Increases the moisture content down to the deeper skin layers.
  • Gives an exceptional radiance.
  • Strengthened by active ingredients that are individually selected for you.

The skin analysis revealed that my skin is younger than my biological age. Based on the analysis, the perfect care products for the respective skin needs can then be made from various active ingredients. Because the DOT Spa also contains the DOT Lab. After this treatment my skin felt great and got its glow back.

All in all, I can warmly recommend a stay at Villa Sassa and not only because of the wonderful view, the beautiful garden and the delicious food.
