Overnight Stay at Hotel Pilatus-Kulm & “Breathe with Pilatus” Experience

There are places you visit — and then there are places you truly experience. Mount Pilatus definitely belongs to the second category. Perched high above Lake Lucerne, it combines spectacular nature, exclusive retreats, and special experiences that go far beyond a classic excursion. This is exactly where we had the opportunity to escape everyday life for one night and enjoy a break shaped by tranquility, indulgence, and mindful moments. Between the impressive journey, an overnight stay at Hotel Pilatus-Kulm, and a unique breathwork experience, our stay became something that lingers long after you leave.

Journey to Mount Pilatus – When the Way Becomes the Experience

Even the journey to Mount Pilatus is a highlight in itself. With Pilatus Bahnen AG, the experience begins already in the valley: first, a relaxed ride on the panoramic gondola from Kriens takes you upward, before the spectacular Dragon Ride conquers the final meters in altitude. During the ride, new perspectives of the lake landscape and the Alps unfold again and again — or, as in our case, snow-covered forests — a moment that already slows you down even before you arrive.

Once you reach 2,132 meters above sea level, you immediately feel the special atmosphere: clear, calm, and impressively vast.

Breathe with Pilatus – A Journey Within

A very special highlight of our stay was experiencing the unique installation Breathe with Pilatus, initiated by Annabelle Schneider. This extraordinary project can still be experienced on Mount Pilatus until the end of April and transforms the mountain into a place of mindful perception and deep relaxation.

At its center is a multisensory installation — a gently “breathing” cloud that visitors can step inside. As soon as you enter, the atmosphere noticeably shifts: light, sound, and scent merge into a calm, almost meditative space. The visual projections are inspired by nature, the soundscapes feel soothing, and the subtle fragrance evokes fresh mountain air and alpine forests. Together, it creates an experience that is not only visually impressive but also deeply engages the senses.

This installation is far more than an artwork — it is a space to pause. Especially in today’s fast-paced world, it offers a conscious counterbalance: fewer stimuli, more presence. High above on Mount Pilatus, a place emerges where you automatically slow down, experience the moment more intensely, and reconnect with yourself and your surroundings.

Complementing this experience, a breathwork workshop with Orlando Tramont took place within the installation, deepening its effect even further. Yet even independently, the “breathing cloud” stands as a powerful experience on its own and definitely counts among the most memorable moments on Mount Pilatus.

Staying at Hotel Pilatus-Kulm – Exclusivity Above the Clouds

Our stay took us for one night to Hotel Pilatus-Kulm, where we were welcomed into a Superior Room — and from the moment we arrived, it became clear that great attention is paid to detail. The welcome was warm and personal, our names were listed for arrival, and we immediately felt welcomed and well taken care of. This combination of professionalism and personal touch makes all the difference and gives the stay a special sense of exclusivity.

The room itself combines alpine charm with modern comfort. High-quality materials, warm tones, and a calm, stylish interior create an atmosphere where you instantly feel at ease. Normally, the room offers spectacular views of the mountains and Lake Lucerne — however, during our stay, Mount Pilatus showed its winter side. Heavy snowfall wrapped the surroundings in a quiet white stillness. Although the view remained hidden, it created its own almost mystical atmosphere. Snowflakes drifting past the window, the muted silence, and the feeling of being surrounded by clouds made the experience unforgettable in a completely different way.

Especially in the evening, when the last day visitors leave the mountain, the place reveals its unique magic. It becomes quiet — a deep, almost tangible stillness spreads. No crowds, no noise, just nature and the crisp mountain air. This combination turns a stay at Hotel Pilatus-Kulm into a true retreat where you consciously slow down and leave everyday life behind.

Culinarily, we were also thoroughly spoiled. The four-course dinner offered a refined, high-quality selection and was served in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and perfectly matched the overall mountain experience. The next morning, a generous breakfast awaited us in the beautiful Victoria Hall — a bright, elegant room full of character. Despite snowfall and limited visibility, it was the perfect start to the day: calm, indulgent, and with that special feeling of being high above the clouds.

My Conclusion – A Place That Stays With You

A stay on Mount Pilatus is far more than a classic overnight stay in the mountains. It is the combination of a spectacular journey, an exclusive stay at Hotel Pilatus-Kulm, and the unique Breathe with Pilatus experience that makes this place so special.

It’s not just about beautiful views — it’s about genuine moments of calm, enjoyment, and connection — with nature and with yourself.
