Perched high above the Thames with breathtaking valley views, it\u2019s surrounded by vast, blooming gardens and the legendary yew maze \u2013 one of my absolute favourites on this trip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clivedenhouse.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cliveden House<\/a> was a hub of high society in the 19th and 20th centuries \u2013 Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill were regular guests \u2013 and it\u2019s known as a filming location for <em>Downton Abbey<\/em> and various films. It\u2019s become a meeting point for boaters and offers several comfortable marinas for mooring overnight. Don\u2019t miss the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maidenhead_Railway_Bridge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maidenhead Railway Bridge<\/a> by Isambard Kingdom Brunel \u2013 a Victorian engineering marvel.<\/p>\n<p>At the riverside <a href=\"https:\/\/coppaclub.co.uk\/venues\/maidenhead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coppa Club<\/a>, you can dine in chic igloos right by the water \u2013 we ended up eating pizza in a pub due to rain (and I forgot to photograph it!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> pre\u2011book a marina berth if you can; Maidenhead is very popular with British holidaymakers. Majestic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rct.uk\/visit\/windsor-castle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windsor Castle<\/a>, the official royal residence, dominates the skyline. The town brims with history \u2013 cobbled lanes, chic boutiques and traditional tearooms. I loved simply strolling this beautiful, history\u2011rich place. The famous walk leads through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windsor Great Park<\/a> to the statue of George III (the Copper Horse) \u2013 perfect for photos and romantic picnics (unless there\u2019s a state visit). Cross the bridge over the Thames to reach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etoncollege.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eton College<\/a> with its historic buildings. Our mooring with direct castle views was a dream \u2013 you can see it on the cover image of this post. The area has Roman roots; today you\u2019ll find thatched cottages, flower\u2011filled gardens and small independent shops.
