This year, too, pure excitement awaits you on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. During the first three weekends in February, the legendary White Turf is a guest. So of course I didn’t miss the first of the three race weekends.
The first race weekend
On the first race Sunday, more than 50 horses from four countries competed in the three disciplines gallop, trot and skijoring on the frozen Lake St. Moritz. The Family Days then take place every Saturday. In skijoring there will be a change of generations: Franco Moro, Köbi Broger and Lupo Wolf will step down together after many years of shaping the sport.
The Grand Prix Swiss Quality Broker was the first sighting test for the 83rd Grand Prix of St. Moritz coming up on the third Sunday, which is under the patronage of the Evangelos Pistiolis Foundation for the first time this year and is again endowed with 100,000 Swiss francs. Mordred and Nubius, the runners-up of last year’s Grand Prix of St. Moritz, will be competing.
In addition, the Swiss Derby winner of 2020, Moderator, who belongs to the circle of the best flat horses in our country, competed on snow for the first time.
Ispahan from the Engadine stable ForzAgricula is also considered a co-favourite in the main event of the first day. He won the Grand Prix Jockey Club in Dielsdorf at the end of September.
The White Turf Family Days will once again celebrate young talent
After enjoying enormous popularity with young and old in 2022, the White Turf Family Days will take place again this year. On the first three Saturdays in February – 4, 11 and 18 February – young racing talent will be celebrated: The programme includes pony, trotting and flat races as well as mounted Credit Suisse Kids Skijoring. In addition to pony rides, there will also be skijoring taxi rides for the younger guests. The starting signal for the first race will be given at 11.30 a.m., and the catering facilities will open at 11.00 a.m.
Admission to the Family Day is free for everyone.
