I recently had the pleasure of spending a winter weekend at the Romantikhotel Schweizerhof Flims – a place that immediately gives you that feeling of having arrived. Stylish, peaceful and with an atmosphere that is perfect for taking a deep breath.

In this article, I share my impressions: from the hotel and the rooms to the cuisine and wellness facilities to the most beautiful experiences in and around Flims. Perhaps my stay will inspire you to take your own luxurious break in the mountains.

The Schweizerhof Flims – Historic hotel with alpine charm

The Schweizerhof Flims is one of those hotels that does not hide its history, but proudly displays it. The building dates back to the Belle Époque, a period when grand hotels sprang up in the Alps and wealthy people from all over Europe travelled to the mountains to enjoy the fresh air and sophisticated atmosphere. It is precisely this spirit that can still be felt here today: high ceilings, elegant stylistic elements, lovingly restored details – all this gives the hotel a special aura that cannot be artificially created.

As soon as you enter the lobby, you feel transported to another era, without having to forego modern comforts. The interior is high-quality and warm, a harmonious combination of historical charm and contemporary alpine design. It is this blend of tradition and gentle modernisation that makes the hotel so distinctive.

I particularly liked the fact that the history of the hotel is not only visible but can also be experienced. The hotel offers regular guided tours, which provide fascinating insights into the Swisshof’s past, from old architectural elements to anecdotes about former guests and the development of the hotel over the decades.

The room – comfort, tranquillity & mountain panorama

When you check in at the Schweizerhof Flims, you are immediately immersed in the charm of the Belle Époque. Light woods, delicate Art Nouveau details and classic forms blend with modern comforts to create a harmonious overall picture. The 48 gently renovated rooms and the apartment preserve the historic character of the building without sacrificing contemporary amenities. We were welcomed with a sweet greeting, which I found particularly nice.

Many rooms pamper their guests with sunny balconies or large panoramic windows offering views of the impressive Flims landscape. To the south lie gardens and forests, while to the north the majestic Grisons mountains and the striking Flims Rock beckon. Daylight and weather conditions interact here, so that every morning offers a little natural spectacle – a wake-up call that gets you in the mood for the day ahead.

I felt very comfortable in the spacious room, which is very cosily furnished, and I enjoyed drinking tea in my room while taking in the view of the snow-covered mountains.

Cuisine at the Schweizerhof Flims – enjoyment from breakfast to dinner

Cuisine plays a central role at the Schweizerhof Flims, transforming every stay into an unforgettable experience. Guests are treated to a high-quality breakfast buffet every morning. Fresh, regional products, carefully selected baked goods, exquisite cheeses, fresh egg dishes and fresh fruit ensure a delicious start to the day. The relaxed atmosphere invites you to enjoy breakfast at your leisure and savour the first hours of the day at the Schweizerhof Flims.

In the evening, I had the opportunity to experience the Graubünden guest aperitif – a perfect opportunity to end the day in style or get in the mood for a special evening. Selected drinks and Graubünden specialities offer moments of enjoyment in a relaxed atmosphere.

The evening menus at the Schweizerhof Flims restaurant are a real highlight. Here, regional tradition meets creative cuisine: sometimes the dishes are down-to-earth Graubünden fare, sometimes French-inspired – always lovingly prepared and made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Even vegetarians and vegans will find great options that surprise and delight.

What makes the evening even more enjoyable is the atmosphere: the restaurant is elegant without being stuffy, with plenty of Belle Époque charm and cosy corners where you can simply relax. This allows you to enjoy every course at your leisure, from the first bite to the dessert.

Wellness at the Schweizerhof Flims – pure relaxation in the Alps

When you enter the wellness area at the Schweizerhof Flims, you immediately sense that there is only one thing to do here: switch off, take a deep breath and simply enjoy. Everything is modern, stylish and yet cosily furnished – you can tell that every detail has been planned with genuine relaxation in mind.

My personal highlight? Definitely the steam bath, perfect after a long day outdoors in the fresh mountain air. But the Finnish sauna with its large windows offering views of the surrounding mountains is also a little piece of heaven on earth. And then there’s the indoor pool – pleasantly warm, quiet, perfect for diving in. The relaxation areas are just as cosy, with views of the snow-covered peaks and green landscapes, allowing you to truly unwind.

For those seeking an extra dose of relaxation, there are even yoga classes available on site. A little stretching, deep breathing and simply being in the moment in the morning or afternoon – it feels like a little break for the soul.

What makes the Schweizerhof Flims special is this blend of alpine nature and modern spa comfort. You immediately feel at home, everything seems harmonious and well thought out – here you can really relax, whether after a hike, a day of skiing or just because.
