In December, in the run-up to Christmas, I embarked on a journey that would take me into a world full of history and luxury. The destination of my journey of discovery was the Relais & Châteaux Hardenberg BurgHotel, a place that is not only characterised by imposing architecture and warm hospitality, but the castle that towers behind the hotel also tells the story of a bygone era.
As a travel blogger, I was able to explore the Hardenberg BurgHotel in December and was immediately mesmerised by the impressive architecture and historic ambience. The hotel, nestled in a picturesque landscape, exudes a timeless charm. The combination of modern comfort and elegance creates a unique atmosphere.

The understated, elegant furnishings and individual touches created a warm atmosphere that invited me to feel completely at home. Each room, unique in itself, offered the perfect comfort for a relaxing stay and contributed significantly to the unique hospitality of the Hardenberg Burghotel.
Culinary delights: treats for the palate in the Novalis restaurant
The culinary experiences at the Relais & Châteaux Hardenberg BurgHotel tantalised my taste buds. The varied selection in the Novalis restaurant offered exquisite dishes that were not only delicious but also skilfully presented.
Named after the important German Romantic poet Novalis, the restaurant not only reflects his creative spirit, but also his connection to the history of the Hardenberg family. The lovingly designed atmosphere beneath the castle ruins creates the perfect setting for gastronomic highlights.
The Novalis restaurant was awarded 85 points by the Falstaff Hotel Guide this year, and a visit promises a firework display of flavours and taste sensations. Under the direction of head chef Malte Gunzert, perfectly crafted dishes are served using the best ingredients from the region.
The breakfast buffet presented a lovingly compiled selection of high-quality ingredients – from crusty bread and fresh fruit to various types of muesli. The freshly prepared egg dishes with eggs from regional farmers gave the breakfast an exclusive touch. The charming ambience and attentive service made breakfast not just a meal, but a moment of pleasure that created the perfect basis for an eventful day at the Hardenberg BurgHotel.
Wellness: relaxation at castle level
At the Hardenberg BurgSpa, I experienced a unique combination of wellness and historical ambience. The facilities include a fitness room, sauna area with infrared sauna and Finnish sauna, a relaxation zone with fireplace and whirlpool tubs with a view of the Hardenberg castle ruins.
The spa offers a wide range of wellness massages, from aromatic oil massages to exotic “Hardenberg meets Orient” massages. Facials and cosmetic treatments with high-quality products from SOTHYS round off the offer.
Castle & surroundings: discoveries steeped in history
The castle itself is a fascinating sight. The over 1,000-year-old Hardenberg castle ruins rise majestically above the countryside and lend the landscape a fairytale atmosphere. I really enjoyed the private exploration of the castle, and the view of the hotel is also marvellous. The surrounding nature invited me to take long walks, during which I was able to explore the idyllic surroundings.
Another highlight of my stay at the Hardenberg BurgHotel was the walk to the nearby Hardenberg Castle. A unique experience awaits you at the Hardenberg Distillery in the historic ambience of the hotel. Immerse yourself in the world of exquisite spirits, experience fascinating tours and tastings, and discover the perfect harmony of tradition and innovation. Here in Hinterhaus 10, over 300 years of grain tradition and modern distillery art are combined to create high-proof masterpieces.
The Hardenberg BurgHotel impressed me with its unique ambience, exquisite cuisine, relaxing wellness programme and historic surroundings. I can warmly recommend a stay at the Hardenberg BurgHotel to anyone looking for a break from everyday life. A place where history comes alive and hospitality is a top priority.
